The Diocese of Fresno is one of the largest dioceses in the nation, covering over 35,000 square miles in an eight county area. Our diverse Parishes, Missions, and Stations serve a population of over one million Catholic faithful, out of a total population of about 2.7 million. The diocese boasts a rich multicultural and multi-ethnic population. Last year, workshops were offered in five different languages (English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Hmong) for over 1,500 registrants. We serve metropolitan, rural, agricultural, mountain and desert communities.
Deacon Jones graduated from Wayne State University in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in Art Education, and received a master’s degree in Pastoral Studies from Sacred Heart Major Seminary. He taught in the Detroit school system for twenty-eight years.
For 25 years, he was the senior minister of two churches in the city of Detroit: Zion Congregational Church of God in Christ, the second oldest Pentecostal church in Michigan, and Maranatha Christian Church, an Evangelical/Charismatic church. In March of 1998, while reading the apostolic fathers and subsequent church history, he discovered the Church to be charismatic/liturgical, hierarchical, and Eucharistic-centered. In light of that discovery, he and his wife, Donna, began a two-year journey into the Catholic Church that culminated in 54 members of his previous congregation, including 14 members of his family, entering the Catholic Church. They entered the R.C.I.A. process and were welcomed into the Catholic Church in April of 2001.
Deacon Jones was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Archdiocese of Detroit on October 1, 2005. He has since retired from the positions as evangelization coordinator for the Archdiocese of Detroit and as a Pastoral Associate.
He is also the author of No Price Too High! - a book chronicling his journey into the Church.
