Why the priesthood? The answer is why not? Many may ask a seminarian, priest, religious brother or sister, “why this vocation?” And I bet the ones asking may have a handful of reasons against their choice. But the truth is, there exists twice that handful as to why one should consider this option. My reason is, I want to see the world through our Lord’s eyes. I want to offer myself up completely and learn to be a servant of God for others. I strongly believe that through this vocation I will fulfill my purpose and become closer to God.
What did you do before seminary?
Before I entered the seminary I was a full-time undergraduate student at one of my local community colleges, I was a swimming and water polo coach at my high school, I worked as a choreographer, and I was involved in a charismatic ministry. I praised the Lord in everything I did; in my job, school, and ministry. So, even before I entered the seminary I was praising the Lord but now I am learning how to expand my spirituality and faith.
I do not have a favorite saint. But I do admire the life of the saints and martyrs. I take in the virtues and good actions they did and try to apply them to my personal life.
My advice to anyone discerning the priesthood is, do not be afraid. If you have received this call it is not to torment you or scare you. On the other hand, it is an invitation to open your heart and life to God’s call to be a servant of His people. I also strongly recommend prayer! Prayer should be the first item on anyone’s list who is discerning their
