May 2, 2012
The last half of the month of April has been a bit difficult for our staff. We lost a dear friend, Miguel Arias. Miguel Arias previously worked for Loyola Press and recently at Liturgical Training Publications and was a great supporter of the Diocese and of our various ministries. He was a regular speaker at our annual congress and contributed to our Hispanic Ministry Convocation nearly a year ago. We remember him fondly and ask for your prayers for him and his family.
Last week, Josie Contente’s husband passed away. We ask that all of our diocesan family continue to pray for her husband Tony Contente and also hold Josie in prayer and in your hearts during this difficult time. She is very appreciative of all of the support she has already received from so many of you. Our office will be closed on Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 9:00 AM to sometime between 12- 1pm to attend the funeral.
Please be aware that the DRE Certification scheduled for May 3rd has been postponed until further notice.
We started the month with the first DRE/CRE certification course where 32 catechetical leaders participated here at the Pastoral Center. One of the most time-consuming tasks that took up a lot of our time in early April was the launching of the new diocesan website. Thank you to Kue Lee, Paul Mentlewski, and Claude Muncey who assisted with the transfer of the site. Our Newsletter has now been permanently moved off of blogger and is now located on our diocesan website. We also held our annual Olimpiadas at Woodward Park, welcoming over 400 youth and young adults from Pastoral Juvenil. Campesino ministers finished the month participating in a workshop offered by Rev. Eleazar Lopez from Oaxaca, Mexico addressing the particular needs of working with people from indigenous communities. Please take time to read further about what has been going on in our various ministries during the month of April.
