The recent reports of hate mail and threatening comments received by those following the Muslim faith here in the Valley and elsewhere in the United States is a cause of great concern for all people of faith as well as all those who treasure and hold sacred our God-given rights and dignity which is enshrined in our Constitution.
Hate or violence or discrimination directed toward any specific individual or group or faith community should be rejected as unacceptable among a freedom-loving people and should have no place in our national discourse and behavior.
The latest hateful and hurtful comments made toward the Muslim Community and specifically received by the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno must be called out in no uncertain terms as contrary to both our faith in a Merciful and Loving God and as citizens of a Free Country whose foundation is “freedom and justice for All.”
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno invites all people of good will to seek avenues which encourage understanding and dialogue to dispel fear and unfounded mistrust that may sometimes drive our discussion.
May the Lord guide us and strengthen us down our path toward unity and the common good for all people.
