World Youth Day 2016
Welcome! This page will guide you to all you need to know as you start your pilgrimage to World Youth Day! Follow these easy steps to be on your way!
Step One: Gather Information
The first thing to do is to get all the information you can, and make sure this is a journey you really want to take! World Youth Day is for young adults over 16 years of age who are open to an experience like no other!
You can look on the official website for World Youth Day, www.krakow2016.com
to read more about the event and what it entails. You can also download the document "World Youth Day 2016 Guidelines" to see what is expected of those who participate from the Diocese of Fresno. http://documents/Youth Ministry/World Youth Day/World Youth Day 2016 Registration.pdf
Step Two: Discern
Take some time to discuss this opportunity with your parents and family, you youth ministry group, and pray about it. There are many elements to consider...the financial element is the first that comes to mind. World Youth Day costs approximately $3,000 per person, so that is a huge commitment to save, fundraise, and earn money over the next year and a half. There is also a physical element to consider...since this is a pilgrimage, there is a lot of walking and "roughing" it on this journey. There will be no nice hotels or private busses everywhere. We plan on very simple accommodations and lots of walking! And finally, the spiritual element. A pilgrimage is a journey of prayer and a time to bring us closer to God. Very different from a vacation, a pilgrimage involves prayer, daily mass when possible, and being open to spiritual growth.
Step Three: Sign up!
Once you are at least 80% sure you want to start this process, you should talk to your youth minister or pastor. There will be one contact person per parish, so that we can ensure communication with the parish and the pastor. If you do not know if anyone is organizing this for your parish you can call the Office of Ministries and speak to Rosie. She can let you know.
Your contact person will submit your name for registration, and you will receive via email a more detailed registration form. You will then continue to receive information via email for the next steps.
By October 15th you will need to have submitted your deposit of $125 to get started, along with a signed agreement regarding payments, and a copy of your passport. Your passport must be valid until February 1, 2017. If you do not have one, you should start the process now so you will be prepared!
If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to contact Rosie at the Office of Ministries. She will be more than happy to answer your questions!
