I have always felt a calling to the Priesthood since a young age, even being inspired by one of my former pastors Father Rodolfo Orozco. I feel that God is calling me to shepherd His flock. I have always felt a calling to serve others, to lay down my life for the Church and to be that light of Christ to those that live in darkness.
What did you do before seminary?
Before entering the Seminary I was volunteering at my Parish and was one of the youth coordinators. I was also going to school pursuing my degree in Administration of Justice. I was studying to become a Correctional Officer in hopes of one day working on a Parole Board in a prison.
My favorite saint is St. John the Apostle. I chose St. John as my Confirmation Saint. I always found something so interesting in his writings as well as in the person he was. It always inspired me as to the influence he had being the youngest apostle of Christ. I related a lot to him as I am also the youngest of my siblings, I am the youngest of seven. The trust that Christ had on him to entrust him with the care of the Virgin Mary, someone so young yet he had one of the greatest responsibilities.
As Catholics we should always be open to the possibility of a vocation to the priesthood and religious life. We must give God a chance to work in us and to come to an understanding of what it is that He wants for us not what we want for ourselves. If one feels the call to follow Christ in a church vocation we should pursue it and discern whether that is truly what God is calling us to. God would never say "no" to us so why should we say "no" to him when we feel the call to the priesthood or religious life? If God is truly calling someone to the diocesan priesthood or religious life He will set the way and provide all that is necessary to reach it. We have nothing to lose by giving God a chance to work in our lives.
To the Diocese of Fresno:
Thank you all for your continued prayers and support of vocations to the priesthood. It is only by your prayers and support that we seminarians are able to pursue and discern if we are truly being called to follow Christ in the priesthood. Know that you are all in my prayers daily. Please continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life for the Diocese of Fresno. May God continue to bless you and your loved ones.
