Catechetical Corner: New Parish Catechetical Leader Boot Camp (ENG/ESP)

One of the most daunting tasks we can face when being put into a new situation, regardless of what it is, is learning how to do it, and hopefully how to do it well. When it comes to ministry leadership I myself have been put in situations in which I have had to learn on the spot and adapt myself to a new process or way of thinking and working. But I have also always taken the time to view it as a new opportunity to learn and grow both in knowledge and skills. I have often discovered though that it does have to be an intentional action. The more we are formed and informed in what we must do regarding leadership the easier it gets.

This type of mentality must be present in those that lead, especially in ministry because of what is involved. Ministry leadership does not only involve the teaching and guiding process of others but also matters of faith. We must set an example for those of which we have expectations of. The relationships we create and the formation we provide to those that we guide are crucial just as much as is our own formation and understanding in being able to create structured and properly functioning ministries. As we work together in evangelizing our communities, we must also bear in mind that in the process of forming ourselves we don’t have to walk alone.

The specific formation I speak of at this point is our annual Boot Camp for new parish catechetical leaders. This year we will once again offer our Boot Camp for new Catechetical Leadership, the biggest difference of course will be where we offer it. We will be offering two Boot Camps, one in the North and one in the South side of our Diocese, to hopefully make it easier for individuals to attend. In previous years they had been offered once a year at St. Anthony Retreat Center in Three Rivers. The North side Boot Camp will be offered July 22 at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera and the South one at St. Francis of Assisi in Bakersfield, both from 9 am – 3:30 pm. So, what is Boot Camp? It is a formational and informational workshop in which we invite Parish Catechetical Leaders that have been serving for three years or less to learn the skills any catechetical leader should know. We focus on topics regarding administration, catechist recruitment, communication, forms, and documentation, and many more topics. This year we will also be including a morning component for all Ministry Leaders in which we will gather briefly to advocate for Vicariate Meetings as we had before the pandemic but also share new information and formation opportunities that will be available this year.

As we near these events we pray that if you are a new catechetical leader or have been a catechetical leader for many years that you will please consider attending any of these two Boot Camps. If you are not a catechetical leader, then I invite you to share this information with someone that is in your parish.

Rincón Catequético: Nuevo Campamento de Entrenamiento para Líderes Catequéticos Parroquiales

Una de las tareas más desalentadoras que podemos enfrentar cuando nos ponemos en una nueva situación, independientemente de lo que sea, es aprender cómo hacerlo y, con suerte, cómo hacerlo bien. Cuando se trata del liderazgo ministerial, yo mismo he sido puesto en situaciones en las que he tenido que aprender en al momento y adaptarme a un nuevo proceso o forma de pensar y trabajar. Pero también siempre me he tomado el tiempo para verlo como una nueva oportunidad para aprender y crecer tanto en conocimientos como en habilidades. Sin embargo, a menudo he descubierto que tiene que ser una acción intencional. Cuanto más formados e informados estemos sobre lo que debemos hacer con respecto al liderazgo, más fácil será.

Este tipo de mentalidad debe estar presente en aquellos que lideran, especialmente en el ministerio debido a lo que está involucrado. El liderazgo del ministerio no solo involucra el proceso de enseñanza y guía de otros, sino también asuntos de fe. Debemos dar ejemplo a aquellos de los que tenemos expectativas. Las relaciones que creamos y la formación que brindamos a aquellos a quienes guiamos son cruciales tanto como lo es nuestra propia formación y comprensión para poder crear ministerios estructurados y que funcionen adecuadamente. Al trabajar juntos en la evangelización de nuestras comunidades, también debemos tener en cuenta que en el proceso de formarnos no tenemos que caminar solos.

La formación específica de la que hablo en este momento es nuestro Campamento de Entrenamiento anual para nuevos líderes catequéticos parroquiales. Este año volveremos a ofrecer nuestro Campamento de Entrenamiento para el nuevo Liderazgo Catequético, la mayor diferencia, por supuesto, será dónde lo ofrecemos. Ofreceremos dos campamentos de entrenamiento, uno en el lado norte y otro en el lado sur de nuestra diócesis, para facilitar la asistencia de las personas. En años anteriores se les había ofrecido una vez al año en el Centro de Retiros de San Antonio en Tres Rios. El campamento en el norte se ofrecerá el 22 de julio en la Iglesia Católica San Joachim en Madera y el del sur en San Francis de Assisi en Bakersfield, ambos de 9 am a 3:30 pm. ¿Entonces, ¿qué es un Campamento de Entrenamiento? Es un taller formativo e informativo en el que invitamos a los líderes catequéticos parroquiales que han estado sirviendo durante tres años o menos a aprender las habilidades que cualquier líder catequético debe saber. Nos enfocamos en temas relacionados con la administración, reclutamiento de catequistas, comunicación, formularios y documentación, y muchos más temas. Este año también incluiremos un componente matutino para todos los líderes ministeriales en el que nos reuniremos brevemente para compartir tocante las juntas de vicariato, como lo hacíamos antes de la pandemia, pero también compartiremos nueva información y oportunidades de formación que estarán disponibles este año.

A medida que nos acercamos a estos eventos, oramos para que, si usted es un nuevo líder catequético o ha sido un líder catequético durante muchos años, considere asistir a cualquiera de estos dos campamentos de entrenamiento. Si usted no es un líder catequético, entonces lo invito a compartir esta información con alguien que esté en su parroquia.
