Catechetical Ministries in Motion: St. Joseph, Bakersfield (ENG/ESP)

Parish volunteer work has many interesting qualities and aspects that lend themselves to unique opportunities of amazing fulfillment or stagnating challenges. The former can be achieved when we accept any type of service as an opportunity of selfless giving, especially when it comes to serving the Lord’s people for the right reasons. But when it comes to the latter, being challenged by any type of service is made that much more difficult when we feel burdened to do something. If we choose to though, any challenge can be an opportunity depending on our perspective.

This past weekend I provided a catechist retreat to the catechists of St. Joseph’s Church in Bakersfield along with catechists from their mission church San Clemente. As always, the leadership team provided an amazing environment and took care of the logistics. The catechists that participated also had a fantastic vibe an energy to them as well, which always makes any event that much more effective and dynamic. A heartfelt thank you to all the participants in making this event possible.

The topics I shared were focused on rediscovering our first encounter with Christ when we felt called to serve for the first time along with rediscovering Christ among those we evangelize today. The other two topics involved were in catechizing through the example of our blessed Mother Mary and of embracing the Holy Spirit in everything we do, not just in ministry but in our every day lives to proclaim the Lord’s message of love, charity, and kindness.

Through the topics I was also inspired to share with the catechists the need to have a devotion to what we do in serving the Lord. If we truly want to get the best possible outcome from the ministries we accept the call to serve in then we have to embrace them with an open heart and allow ourselves to fall in love with our ministries and accept them as a vocation.

It is the love we share through our vocations in which the love we feel for Christ is expressed to its fullest extent. It is the love of Christ that we reflect through everything we do in life that invites others to His presence. This is especially true when we catechize others through our ministries, especially when speaking of youth and children we catechize and evangelize through sacrament preparation, as we not only introduce them to the various teachings of the Catholic Church, but we facilitate encounters with Christ continuously.

To all of my catechists across the Diocese of Fresno as we begin the new season of catechism to the community of the faithful that our Lord will put before us to share and grow in the faith always remember that everything we do to serve these individuals is to be done with absolute love and devotion. Aside from giving our hearts and souls to the Lord’s people in the service of His name let us also give our minds to this effort. Each and every individual at the forefront of their ministries can decide as to whether the challenges they face will become a roadblock against evangelization or an opportunity to grow and mature as a true catechist and sharer of faith. Everything that you feel you need to support your effort God will provide.

(2 Corinthians 12:9) And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

Ministerios Catequéticos en Movimiento: San José, Bakersfield

El trabajo voluntario parroquial tiene muchas cualidades y aspectos interesantes que se prestan a oportunidades únicas de satisfacción increíbles o desafíos estancados. Lo primero se puede lograr cuando aceptamos cualquier tipo de servicio como una oportunidad de entrega desinteresada, especialmente cuando se trata de servir al pueblo del Señor por las razones correctas. Pero cuando se trata de esto último, ser desafiado por cualquier tipo de servicio se hace mucho más difícil cuando nos sentimos agobiados por hacer algo. Sin embargo, si elegimos hacerlo, cualquier desafío puede ser una oportunidad dependiendo de nuestra perspectiva.

Este fin de semana pasado proporcioné un retiro de catequesis a las catequistas de la Iglesia de San José en Bakersfield junto con catequistas de su iglesia misionera San Clemente. Como siempre, el equipo de liderazgo proporcionó un ambiente increíble y se encargó de la logística. Las catequistas que participaron también tenían una vibra fantástica y energía con ellas, lo que siempre hace que cualquier evento sea mucho más efectivo y dinámico. Un sincero agradecimiento a todas las participantes por hacer posible este evento.

Los temas que compartí se centraron en redescubrir nuestro primer encuentro con Cristo cuando nos sentimos llamados a servir por primera vez junto con redescubrir a Cristo entre los que evangelizamos hoy. Los otros dos temas involucrados fueron en catequizar a través del ejemplo de nuestra bendita Madre María y de abrazar el Espíritu Santo en todo lo que hacemos, no solo en el ministerio sino en nuestra vida cotidiana para proclamar el mensaje del Señor de amor, caridad y bondad.

A través de los temas también me inspiré compartir con las catequistas la necesidad de tener una devoción a lo que hacemos al servir al Señor. Si realmente queremos obtener el mejor resultado posible de los ministerios en los que aceptamos el llamado a servir, entonces tenemos que abrazarlos con un corazón abierto y permitirnos enamorarnos de nuestros ministerios y aceptarlos como una vocación.

Es el amor que compartimos a través de nuestras vocaciones en el que el amor que sentimos por Cristo se expresa en toda su extensión. Es el amor de Cristo que reflejamos a través de todo lo que hacemos en la vida lo que invita a otros a su presencia. Esto es especialmente cierto cuando catequizamos a otros a través de nuestros ministerios, especialmente cuando hablamos de jóvenes y niños cual catequizamos y evangelizamos a través de la preparación sacramental, ya que no solo les presentamos las diversas enseñanzas de la Iglesia Católica, sino que facilitamos el encuentro con Cristo continuamente.

A todos y todas mis catequistas en toda la Diócesis de Fresno al comenzar la nueva temporada de catecismo a la comunidad de fieles que nuestro Señor pondrá ante nosotros para compartir y crecer en la fe, recuerden siempre que todo lo que hacemos para servir a estas personas debe hacerse con absoluto amor y devoción. Además de dar nuestros corazones y almas al pueblo del Señor al servicio en Su nombre, entreguemos también nuestras mentes a este esfuerzo. Todos y cada uno de los individuos al frente de sus ministerios pueden decidir si los desafíos que enfrentan se convertirán en un obstáculo contra la evangelización o en una oportunidad para crecer y madurar como un verdadero y verdadera catequista y partícipe de la fe. Todo lo que sientan que necesitan para apoyar sus esfuerzos Dios lo proveyera.

(2 Corintios 12:9) y otras tantas me ha dicho: “te basta mi gracia, porque mi fuerza se realiza plenamente en lo débil”. Con gusto, pues, presumiré de mis flaquezas, para sentir dentro de mí la fuerza de Cristo.
