The Catechetical Corner: Diocesan Congress Volunteers Wanted! (ENG/ESP)

To be a volunteer means many things to different people. It could be a way to build community, perhaps it's a rewarding experience that helps you feel more connected to God, for some, it can serve as a calling or as a foundation point to help the greater good. Even youth in our confirmation programs are asked to give of their time and talents.

Volunteering your time and talents does take effort, especially when you feel as if you don’t have any time to spare to begin with, but I have discovered that when you really think about how you spend your time throughout a day, a week, a month, or even a whole year you find that you might have more time than you realized.

This coming October 13, 14, and 15 we will once again be blessed to be able to offer our Diocesan Congress. Our Congress is an event and opportunity for formation and gathering for all the faithful across our Diocese and beyond. In the past, many have believed that it is only an event for catechists or ministry leaders but given the diverse topics and sessions that are offered, along with Holy Mass on behalf of our bishop, it is really an opportunity for gathering, formation, and worship for all who wish to attend.

But with any great event comes a great necessity, for helping hands, for VOLUNTEERS! I have been blessed for many years, and once again this year in coordinating the volunteers that support the process of this event during its three-day span starting with a Friday which focuses on parish administrators and apostolic ministries, generalized congress gathering which is on a Saturday and ending on Sunday with Youth Day. This is an event that cannot take place without the help and support of individuals that are willing to give most of their time and talents in serving the people of our diocese in one of the biggest events that we offer every year on behalf of our Bishop.

If for some reason you can’t help as a volunteer, please share the need with others that you feel might be able to help. El Rincón Catequético: ¡Se buscan voluntarios para el Congreso Diocesano!

Ser voluntario significa muchas cosas para diferentes personas. Podría ser una forma de construir comunidad, tal vez sea una experiencia gratificante que te ayude a sentirte más conectado con Dios, para algunos, puede servir como un llamado o como un punto de fundación para ayudar al bien mayor. Incluso a los jóvenes en nuestros programas de confirmación se les pide que den de su tiempo y talentos.

Ofrecer voluntariamente tu tiempo y talentos requiere esfuerzo, especialmente cuando sientes que no tienes tiempo de sobra para empezar, pero he descubierto que cuando realmente piensas en cómo pasas tu tiempo a lo largo de un día, una semana, un mes o incluso un año entero, descubres que puedes tener más tiempo del que creías.

Este año, el 13, 14 y 15 de octubre tendremos la bendición de poder ofrecer nuestro Congreso Diocesano. Nuestro Congreso es un evento y una oportunidad de formación y reunión para todos los fieles de nuestra diócesis y más allá. En el pasado, muchos han creído que es solo un evento para catequistas o líderes ministeriales, pero dados los diversos temas y sesiones que se ofrecen, junto con la Santa Misa por medio de nuestro obispo, es realmente una oportunidad para reunirse, recibir formación y compartir en adoración para todos los que deseen asistir.

¡Pero con cualquier gran evento viene una gran necesidad, para manos de obra, para VOLUNTARIOS! He sido bendecido durante muchos años, y una vez más este año, en la coordinación de los voluntarios que apoyan el proceso de este evento durante su lapso de tres días, comenzando con un viernes que se centra en los administradores parroquiales y los ministerios apostólicos, la reunión del congreso generalizado que es un sábado y termina el domingo con el Día de la Juventud. Este es un evento que no puede tener lugar sin la ayuda y el apoyo de personas que estén dispuestas a dar la mayor parte de su tiempo y talentos para servir a la comunidad de nuestra Diócesis en uno de los eventos más grandes que ofrecemos cada año por medio de nuestro Obispo.
