FEMA to Help Pay Funeral Costs for COVID-19-Related Deaths

WASHINGTON — In early April, FEMA will begin providing financial assistance for funeral expenses incurred after Jan. 20, 2020 for deaths related to coronavirus (COVID-19) to help ease some of the financial stress and burden caused by the pandemic. The Lord is most certainly in our midst today. He hears our petition and quenches our thirst for the living Word of God. In the moments that frighten us and threaten us we have the Lord and each other to depend on. So we find ourselves facing one of those moments now. In addition to whatever else we have committed to do for our Lenten observance, we are all being asked to observe a penance that we would never have chosen and could not have anticipated.

DECREE – March 13, 2020

In light of the current situation, all Roman Catholics in the Diocese of Fresno are hereby dispensed from the obligation of Sunday Mass attendance. This dispensation will go into effect immediately and will remain in effect until such time as it is deemed prudent to rescind it. Again, all Catholics may avail themselves of this dispensation but I especially encourage persons falling into the categories of greater risk to do so.

DECRETO – 13 de marzo, 2020

En vista de la situación actual, todos los católicos romanos en la Diócesis de Fresno quedan exentos de la obligación de asistir a la misa dominical. Esta exención entrará en vigencia de inmediato y permanecerá vigente hasta el momento en que se considere prudente anularla. Nuevamente, todos los católicos pueden aprovechar esta exención, pero animo especialmente a las personas que caen en las categorías de mayor riesgo a hacerlo.
