Statement from The Most Reverend Joseph V. Brennan, D.D. in collaboration with Right to Life of Central California

On Thursday, November 19th, I released a video about possible ethical issues with the vaccines that are in development to combat COVID-19. That video, along with subsequent comments to media entities that were disseminated in local, statewide, and national outlets, created some confusion among Catholics about the Church’s stance on these possible treatments. In this […]

Bishop’s Message – Sunday Liturgies 3/15

The Lord is most certainly in our midst today. He hears our petition and quenches our thirst for the living Word of God. In the moments that frighten us and threaten us we have the Lord and each other to depend on. So we find ourselves facing one of those moments now. In addition to whatever else we have committed to do for our Lenten observance, we are all being asked to observe a penance that we would never have chosen and could not have anticipated.

DECREE – March 13, 2020

In light of the current situation, all Roman Catholics in the Diocese of Fresno are hereby dispensed from the obligation of Sunday Mass attendance. This dispensation will go into effect immediately and will remain in effect until such time as it is deemed prudent to rescind it. Again, all Catholics may avail themselves of this dispensation but I especially encourage persons falling into the categories of greater risk to do so.

Mensaje Del Obispo – Liturgias Del Domingo – 3/15
