The Catechetical Corner: Month of the Holy Rosary with our Students

The month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. This is primarily due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7th.

As catechists, we can incorporate the rosary in many ways in our faith sharing. When praying the rosary with children you may be wondering if they will sit still or be distracted. The short answer is, yes, they might not be still, and, yes, small children may be distracted at times.

The following are some helpful tips to get started praying this powerful and beautiful devotion within teaching components of our lesson plans for this month of October with our students.

· Get into the habit of praying the rosary yourself: The best way to teach our students is to lead by example. If you are not too familiar with the rosary dedicate a time when you will pray it and learn more about it.

· Start small with your students: It takes time to establish a new habit or devotion so introduce it little by little, especially if they are not familiarized with it or may come from a household in which it is not prayed. Take the month of October to introduce various components of it in simple manners within your lessons, prayers, and activities.

· Have realistic expectations: Make sure to set realistic and reasonable expectations when you first start praying the rosary with your students or teaching them about it. Teach your students to love and look forward to this time with Our Blessed Mother.

· Use rosary aids, books, and songs: There are tons of rosary resources at our fingertips. Use the resource or activity that best fits the learning needs of your students and the ones that they are most receptive to.

· Make a rosary craft: Everyone loves a new rosary to pray on, and children love to pray with ones they made. Be creative in how you incorporate your crafts but keeping in mind to keep it simple and budget friendly.

· Pray in a group: Many parishes have groups that meet before or after Mass to pray the rosary. This is a great example for your students to see others praying the rosary too. Inform them of the opportunities or events that their parish offers and encourage the parents to participate by helping their children attend these events.

My fellow catechists even though teaching any elements of the faith to our students may sometimes be difficult, God always gives us the grace to do exactly what we need to do. If we are truly faithful and diligent about teaching our students how to pray the rosary and learning about it, He will provide.

El Rincón de Catequesis: Mes del Santo Rosario con nuestros alumnos

El mes de octubre de cada año está dedicado al Santísimo Rosario. Esto se debe principalmente al hecho de que la fiesta litúrgica de Nuestra Señora del Rosario se celebra anualmente el 7 de octubre.

Como catequistas, podemos incorporar el rosario de muchas maneras en nuestro compartir la fe. Al rezar el rosario con los niños, es posible que se pregunten si se quedarán quietos o se distraerán. La respuesta corta es sí, puede que no estén quietos, y sí, los niños pequeños pueden distraerse a veces.

Los siguientes son algunos consejos útiles para comenzar a rezar esta poderosa y hermosa devoción dentro de los componentes de enseñanza de nuestros planes de lecciones para este mes de octubre con nuestros estudiantes.

· Acostúmbrense a rezar el rosario ustedes mismos: La mejor manera de enseñar a nuestros estudiantes es predicar con el ejemplo. Si no están muy familiarizados con el rosario, dediquen un tiempo en el que lo puedan rezar y aprender más sobre él.

· Empiecen poco a poco con sus alumnos: Se necesita tiempo para establecer un nuevo hábito o devoción así que introdúzcanlo poco a poco, sobre todo si no están familiarizados con él o pueden provenir de un hogar en el que no se reza. Aprovechen el mes de octubre para introducir varios componentes del rosario de una manera sencilla en sus lecciones, oraciones y actividades.

· Tengan expectativas realistas: Asegúrense de establecer expectativas realistas y razonables cuando empiecen a rezar el rosario con sus alumnos o a enseñarles sobre él. Enseñen a sus estudiantes a amar y esperar este tiempo con Nuestra Santísima Madre.

· Usen recursos para el rosario, libros y canciones: Hay toneladas de recursos para el rosario al alcance de nuestra mano. Utilicen el recurso o actividad que mejor se adapte a las necesidades de aprendizaje de sus alumnos y a las que sean más receptivos.

· Hagan manualidades del rosario: A todo el mundo le encanta un rosario nuevo para rezar, y a los niños les encanta rezar con los que hicieron. Sean creativos en la forma en que incorporan sus manualidades, pero tengan en cuenta que deben ser sencillos y económicos.

· Recen en grupo: Muchas parroquias tienen grupos que se reúnen antes o después de la misa para rezar el rosario. Este es un gran ejemplo para que sus estudiantes vean a otros rezando el rosario también. Infórmeles de las oportunidades o eventos que ofrezcan sus parroquias y animen a los padres a participar ayudando a sus hijos a asistir a estos eventos.

Mis compañeros y compañeras catequistas a pesar de que enseñar cualquier elemento de la fe a nuestros estudiantes a veces puede ser difícil, Dios siempre nos da la gracia para hacer exactamente lo que necesitamos hacer. Si somos verdaderamente fieles y diligentes en enseñar a nuestros alumnos a rezar el rosario y aprender acerca de él, Él proveerá.
