A Christmas message
My Dear Ones in Christ, You have all heard the story about Ebenezer Scrooge, the famously broken and bitter old man from Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ who had to learn how to ‘keep’ Christmas in his old age and then only after many trials and ‘ghostly’ adventures. Many of us actually learned how to keep Christmas well and joyfully from a very early age. I certainly did with my Mom and Dad who provided me and my brothers and sisters with the most marvelous Christmas day and season you can imagine, and all on a shoestring budget too! One of my earliest ‘Christmas’ memories revolved around the excitement and joy at the opening of the two, big sliding doors that led into our living room. That is where ‘Santa’ had prepared a veritable ‘Winter Wonderland’ with the presents, the tree and all the trimmings. Central California Catholic Life
The Central California Catholic Life, the Diocese of Fresno Catholic newspaper, is published six times a year. Presently 18,000 copies are printed. Pastors/Administrators are given a certain allotment of copies, and they put copies in the vestibules of their churches and encourage people to take a copy home. The Central California Catholic Life is also mailed to subscription- paid subscribers. Copies of this newspaper are also available in our Catholic schools, hospital and convalescent homes, Catholic Charities and other facilities.
The purpose of the Central California Catholic Life is to promote among the people in our parishes a sense of belonging to the diocesan and universal Church. It is meant to promote a sense of unity in our Diocese. It also becomes a vehicle for the teaching office of the bishop and keeps people informed of what is happening on the diocesan level. We also have regular articles on the liturgy, priestly and religious vocations, social justice issues and items from the various diocesan ministries.
Pastors/Administrators are encouraged to share through the newspaper the exciting things that are happening in their parishes especially evangelization and Christian service. By sharing, other parishes may be led to follow the example for more effectively proclaiming the Good News of Jesus.
In the newspaper, we want to highlight different parishes, schools, organizations or special individuals in each of the nine Vicariates of the Diocese. Articles and photographs are always welcomed, and the deadline for this material will always be indicated in the publisher’s box on the last page of each edition. Please submit them to CCCL via e-mail to [email protected] For questions about articles, photographs, etc., please call the co-editors at 559 488-7463. For questions on parish allotments or personal subscriptions, please contact the Development Office at 559 488-7414.
