Sacramental Weddings in Yosemite National Park
The Parish of Our Lady of the Snows in Yosemite National Park, now under the pastoral care of Our Lady of the Sierra in Oakhurst continues to allow the celebration of the Sacrament of Matrimony within the national park.
Our Lady of the Snows is within the Diocese of Fresno, under the care of the Most Reverend Armando X. Ochoa, D.D
The only venue for weddings within the park/parish, re-established by the diocesan bishop, is to be the Yosemite Valley Chapel, near Curry Village. The Yosemite chapel is under the care and direction of the National Park Service and all arrangements for a wedding must be arranged directly with the Park Service. Fees for use of the chapel are to be paid directly to the Park Service.
For canonical purposes, Reverend Joel Patrick Davadilla, the pastor of Our Lady of the Sierra in Oakhurst is responsible for the valid celebration of the sacrament within the park, and is to record all marriages in the sacramental record books of Our Lady of the Snows. Those couples wishing to bring their own clergy to witness the marriage vows must comply with the rules of the parish (preparation classes completed and county marriage license obtained) and provide a letter of status of the deacon or priest directly to the Diocesan Pastoral Center.
Parish will have fees separate from those of the park in preparing for the wedding.
