Marlene Perez is a member of the parish of St. Joseph in Selma, CA and a leader of their Social Justice Ministry. Recently, she and 100 members of her parish, accompanied by their Pastor, Fr. Guadalupe “Lupe” Rios, addressed the Selma CA City Council over the question of the local Police Department not cooperating with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) so that they would feel safe, confident in relating with the local PD and reporting crimes without fear of being reported to ICE and then deported.
