It is my pleasure to announce that Rev. Salvador Gonzalez, Jr. has graciously accepted the appointment as the next Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia of the Diocese of Fresno, effective September 1, 2020. Fr. Gonzalez has expressed his willingness to embrace the ministerial opportunities that come with this appointment.
Fr. Gonzalez is well recognized among the clergy, religious and laity for his administrative and pastoral capabilities. While providing priestly ministry at several parishes, mentoring and journeying with seminarians as the Vocations Director, and serving his brother priests as Vicar Forane for two Vicariates, his priesthood has been greatly enriched and these experiences will be useful in service as the Vicar General/Moderator of the Curia.
Born in 1970 in Los Angeles California, to parents Salvador Gonzalez Sr. and Olivia Gonzalez who migrated from Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico to California. Fr. Gonzalez lived in Torrance, California until the age of 8, then moved to the San Joaquin Valley in 1978. In 1980 his parents decided to return to Mexico, where he attended Catholic school with the Marist Brothers and finished high school. After graduation, he moved back to the United States where he entered the workforce prior to entering the seminary.
In 1990 he entered St. John Vianney House of Formation, where he began his priestly studies for the Diocese of Fresno while attending Fresno City College. In 1993, he transferred to St. John’s Seminary College, Camarillo and earned a BA in Theology and a minor in Philosophy. He completed his theological studies at Mt. Angel Seminary and received a M.Div. degree and ordained Priest for the Diocese of Fresno in 2001.
Your prayerful support for Fr. Gonzalez in his new appointment is greatly appreciated.
