We Must Choose to Love, We Must Choose to Care

Let our hearts never grow weary of caring about the tragic impact of violence, regardless of its root cause.  The cause may be anger, hatred, jealously, prejudice or the effect of some form of mental illness.  Whatever the cause, we must strengthen our capacity to look into our selves and our communities to identify the factors that continue to cultivate a culture of violence.

We must choose to love.  We must choose to care. As people of faith we have no other option. Let us together create a culture of life, not death.  With God, all things are possible.

For those who have recently lost their lives locally to gun violence at St. Alphonsus Church in Fresno and the victims of the mass shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas – May their families and loved ones find comfort in the consolations of the Holy Spirit through Christ our Lord and may the souls of these dearly departed rest in peace. Amen.

Most. Rev. Armando X. Ochoa, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Fresno
